How to prepare your pet for an at-home mobile grooming visit

One of the joys of mobile grooming is that there's almost nothing to prepare — no carrier, no car ride, no drop-off. But a few small things before the van arrives make the session noticeably calmer and smoother for your pet. Here's what we recommend to every new FUR Society client.

1. A short walk or play session first

A dog who's had a walk (or a cat who's had a play session) arrives at the groom relaxed rather than full of energy. Ten minutes is plenty — you want calm, not exhausted.

2. Toilet break before the groom

It sounds obvious, but it's the single most helpful thing: a pet who's been to the toilet settles into a 60–90 minute groom far more comfortably.

3. Skip the pre-groom bath

Don't bathe your pet beforehand — a professional bath with proper products is part of the groom, and freshly washed coats can actually be harder to clip evenly. Arriving 'dirty' is completely normal and expected.

4. Tell us everything

Skin sensitivities, a spot they hate having touched, a past bad experience at a salon, arthritis in an older pet — the more your groomer knows, the gentler and smarter the session. There's a notes box when you book; use it freely.

5. Keep the goodbye low-key

Pets read our energy. A calm, casual hand-over at the van door tells your pet this is routine. Long emotional goodbyes tell them something scary is happening. Most pets are wagging or purring within minutes — and you're only ever a few steps away.

What you don't need to do

No need to provide water, power, towels or parking permits — the van is fully self-contained. Just tell us where's convenient to park outside your home, and we handle the rest. That's the whole point of the salon coming to you.
